Donald Trump releases full “private” letter Melania wrote to Putin
On August 15, former President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss a potential ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The summit gained significant attention not only for its political implications but also because Ukraine, the country at the center of the conflict, was not invited to participate.
After the meeting, Trump claimed that “great progress” had been made, although no official ceasefire was agreed upon, and no proposal was presented to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite this, Trump did manage to personally hand over a letter from former First Lady Melania Trump to President Putin.
The letter, which Trump later shared publicly, urged Putin to think of the innocent children affected by the war. Melania’s message spoke of the universal dreams of children for love, hope, and safety, and called on Putin to protect their innocence by ending the conflict. She wrote, “In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia – you serve humanity itself.”
The summit was met with mixed reactions, especially after reports suggested that Russia might only agree to a ceasefire if allowed to keep Ukrainian territories it has occupied—something Ukraine is unwilling to concede.

Trump faced criticism over his negotiation tactics and responded on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying the media would still attack him even if he got Russia to give up Moscow. He also claimed he had recently stopped six wars, although he didn’t specify which ones.

Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, insisted the summit achieved real progress toward peace, even though no deal was finalized.
